“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” – Proverbs 27:17
Are you allowing yourself to be sharpened, or do you try to preserve your shape when the sharpening stone is pulled out? Sharpening has nothing to do with staying as you are or even adding to your character – it is a process of taking away! It is a process of inspecting the edges you’ve created – running your fingers along them – and realizing they are dull. It’s going into the process waiting to be stripped away.
Swords are never sharpened by adding to the blade – we are not sharpened by avoiding the fight! Sometimes, it is only in the fight where we can see our frailties and insecurities fall away to reveal the weapon Christ has made us to be.
Polishing a sword does no good unless the dullness of the blade has been stripped away. Have you allowed that to happen yet?
